David Griffin Elected as Chairman of Waterbury Health
Network Board and Waterbury Hospital Board of Trustees
WATERBURY – David W.
Griffin, principal attorney at Griffin, Griffin & Mayo
P.C. in Waterbury, has been elected as the Chairman of
Waterbury Hospital’s two oversight boards, the Greater
Waterbury Health Network Board and the Waterbury
Hospital Board of Trustees.
Whereas in previous years the
individual boards were made up of separate officers and
directors, members of the Health Network Board voted
during an annual meeting last month to have both boards
governed by the same slate of officers and directors.
Frederick L. Luedke, the outgoing
Chairman of the Health Network Board, said the decision
to merge the two slates was made for several reasons,
mostly due to efficiency considerations. He said the
shared slate will reduce the number of meetings that
need to be attended by members of both boards while also
reducing the amount of preparation required of hospital
staff. The decision will also conform more with standard
business best practices by allowing all Health Network
directors to be elected by the membership, Luedke said.
Griffin, who had been Chairman of
the Board of Trustees before being elected Chairman of
both boards last week, praised Luedke for his years of
service to the Waterbury Hospital community, adding that
Luedke will continue to play a vital role in the
hospital’s future by remaining on both Boards and
several of the Health Network Board’s important
committees.
Besides Griffin, the slate of
officers elected to serve on both boards in the year
ahead included Vice Chairman Carl D. Contadini;
Secretary John A. Kelly, Jr.; and Treasurer/President
John H. Tobin, who is the President of the Health
Network and President/CEO of Waterbury Hospital.
Tobin last month announced that he
plans to retire after serving nearly a quarter century
as Waterbury Hospital’s top executive. A search
committee, chaired by Griffin, has been selected to
oversee the search process for Tobin’s replacement, and
Griffin said the process should last through the summer
into the fall.
